This is the course location for pre-service teachers enrolled in the Public Purposes of Education: Democracy and Schooling at Montclair State University in New Jersey, USA. This undergraduate-level course provides an overview of P12 schooling within a social and political democracy. As part of the course, students complete 30 hours of field work within an urban school. (3 credits)

What do you see? What do you infer?
How do you observe in the field? Would you know "good" teaching if you saw it? If so, what would it physically look like and sound like? In class session #2 we will discuss how to systematically observe in your school site, including generating field observation notes. (See Session #2 Course Readings).
